Telus, Rogers, Bell

I haven't written anything for a while now, had been under the weather and really busy with meeting people at agencies. I am trying to grow my network to attract opportunities that I want. Anyway let’s get back to what I really wanted to talk about. The Canadian telecommunication is a very good example of an oligopoly to me, three big carriers, each with its 'unique' offerings and their 'young' brands. Telus's Kodoo, Bell's Solo (and also 50% stake in Virgin) and Rogers Fido. What do all of them have in common? They are all here to empty your wallets. I am with Fido; I think I have the cheapest plan, $20 plan. I pay no system access fee; I have like 50 week day minutes and surprisingly every time I look at my bill it’s never less than $60. It’s always a surprise!
The future looks bright though, Globalive launching its brand soon and offering $40 plans with unlimited talk and text. Public Mobile lead by Rogers Exec is also bringing a similar offering and so is Quebecon Inc. Consumer's will have more options and the competitive landscape will bear more fruits for consumers.
What the existing carriers in Canada need to do is "listen" to their consumers and provide them with better options. Flashy websites and play on shifting fees will not solve the problem. The carriers not only face competition from the new entrants but from services like Skype and Vonage as well. The playing field is getting wider and if these carriers don't adapt their are just going to become relics of the past.
