The media world is changing everyday, social networking sites, dating sites, blogs, feeds and the list goes on. Marketers are trying to keep in touch with this changing landscape but unfortunately only few of them are doing a good job. I don't remember the last time I was intrigued by a banner ad or an ad on Facebook or those pesky ads on my gmail. I feel advertising is lacking relevancy. Do I care about the cover letter/resume expert ad when I am searching for a job? Maybe I should but I don't, my feeling is more like " Thanks but no thanks!" or maybe "Not right now, I will look for you when I need you". Yes! Yes! I understand that a lot of work and effort that has gone behind those ads but I empathize with the 'target markets' for being shoved with information . I am not against the targeted 'words' but that I should be given information only when I NEED it! Show me restaurants in my area when I am searching for restaurants. Show me the list of auto insurance companies when I am looking for auto insurance. Do not bombard me with me ads just because you can scan my mail and pickup a few key words. Is that too much to ask for? I think we need a little revamping, a little more empathy for our over communicated and now digitalized (is that a word?)society.
